- We just came back from a week's stay at rise up surf camp, and it definitely was one of the best trips ever. Phil, Hugh, and Steve are awesome hosts and made certain that we were comfortable, surfed out, and well fed throughout the trip. The guys definitely know the waves in the area and there is something for everyone, be it a point break, a beach break, or a river mouth. When not surfing there was plenty of fun to be had cruising through the estuary with a cooler full of beer and punch, deciding which color hammock looked most inviting, dancing under the palapa, watching the gorgeous sunsets, and night time bonfires on the beach under the stars. Definitely an epic trip-we hope to be back soon.

- My friend and I just stayed with Rise Up for a week. It was such a great experience all around. We did a beginner's learn to surf package, which included surfing every day, all our meals, transport from the airport and to our next destination, and several fun adventurous side trips (including volcano boarding!). Oh, and we had a stocked fridge in the room with candy and drinks, too - nothing like a cold Tona after a "hard" day surfing. The house is right on the beach and you can sit and relax on hammocks and rocking chairs under the rancho as much as you want. Steve took care of all our meals and did an excellent job - we ate delicious, healthy, local food all week. And Hugh was our incredibly talented and patient surf instructor. And Phil, the owner/operator, was there much of the time making sure we were taken care of and helped arrange all our fun side trips. We really lucked out, each of these guys were so hospitable and just a lot of fun to be around. We also appreciated the fact that Phil gives back to the community- for example, he supports and is involved with a turtle conservation project near the house. Once we left there, we still had another week in Nicaragua to travel - we kept talking about our experience at Rise Up and recalling all the fun and beauty we experienced. Please go here and support these folks, it really is a little slice of paradise. Whether you are a beginner surfer or an experienced surfer, this is certainly a place you will enjoy."

- I would absolutely recommend seeing Nicaragua with Green Pathways. We had an incredible trip and Phil was the main reason. He always made sure we were having a great time and took care of us way beyond expectations. He lined up awesome day trips and activities. Phil loves his home and the passion definitely showed while he was showing us around. We couldn't have asked for anyone better.

- I went with Rise UP Surf Tours when I booked my surfing trip with my son to Nicaragua because I liked the fact that Philip and his crew are owners who are respectful of the environment and the local economy. Also, I wanted to stay away from some of the main surfing areas in Nicaragua and Costa Rica, because being from So Cal, I hate crowds. Man, what an excellent choice! My son and I are still talking about how great the trip was.
Phil and his crew were outstanding hosts, the setup was ideal, and we happened to hit a week with 10' plus swell. Surfing Puerto Sandino with no one else out with that kind of swell was amazing! Imagine a goofy-footer at a 10' left point break alone . . . Don't worry all you regular footers--there are plenty of rights too.
We ate a lot, surfed a ton, made friends, went on boat rides to surf spots, checked out the wildlife, drank a few beers and a little bit of Flor de Cana rum, toured the beautiful city of Leon, had campfires on the beach, slid down a 4000 foot volcano (you gotta check out the volcano boarding), and left tired, relaxed, and surfed out. And the best part is you don't have to do anything except show up. Phil will take care of the rest!
By the way, my son and I felt totally safe in Nicaragua. And if you're worried about your surfing ability, forget about it. I'm average on a good day, and even with a big swell, I did fine. Just book your trip and pack your boards!
Cheers,
David & Chris

- As a surf trip and a lifetime adventure this is the jewel in any crown. To stay maxed out on a 3 week surf trip is no mean feat and the only way to accomplish this is with the level of knowledge and resources delivered by Phil, Gemma and their team. Phil’s knowledge of the waves regarding swell organization, tides, winds and avoiding the scant crowds was key– timing is everything and he has it down to a fine art, coordinating to the finest detail the right moment to relocate, sidetrack or paddle out. His resources include the Bigfoot Hostel (best Mohitoes in Leon) and Green Pathways tours & not least a deep perceptive of local culture. This means that those small or onshore days (we were lucky enough to witness neither) are instantly filled by Volcano Boarding, eco day trips or educational guided tour of Leon with its rich and exciting history. Meanwhile, Gemma with her elegance and charm keeps it all running smoothly in the background, (thought I didn’t notice huh..?) This is the land of lefts but truly world class and varied with plenty uncrowned barrels. Of the many waves the three major locations we enjoyed were reef, sand, point & beach, from one to three times overhead. At least half of them unknown and unnamed, one was ridden for the first time by our crew. Thanks Guyz for the jewels to Phil, Gemma, Gavin (Cookie) and last but by no means least The Mighty Chinto! See you proximo ano. 1 Love, Philip Corbin.
